COST CONSULTING

Nel Attorneys offers a professional and efficient cost consulting service

DRAFTING

Drafting a bill of cost can be tedious and time consuming. Many attorneys do not have the time to draft their own bills and can utilise their time in a much more productive way.
We specialise in bills of cost and therefore have the skills and experience to compile bills that accurately reflect all the work done by the attorney.

After having drawn a party-and-party bill, there is still a process that needs to be completed whether we settle or tax a bill. We have developed systems and processes to ensure that we complete this process in the most efficient way.

We have a team of experienced attorneys that can draw up your bills according to the law and the specific circumstances, whether it be a party-and-party or attorney-and-client bill of cost.

TAXATION

We are a team of practising attorneys and attend to the taxation of the bills of cost that we have drawn.

We endeavour to have bills settled rather than taxed, providing you with the advantage of having your finalised bill sooner rather than later.

Whilst we understand the value of time we do not settle bills if it is not a reasonable settlement. We especially do not settle bills of cost where there is an issue of law, in such cases we will attend to have your bill of cost taxed on your instructions.

OPPOSING

Bills of cost is not an exact science and it is your duty as an attorney to have your opponent’s bill of cost scrutinised. There is often a wide divide between that which is presented in your opponent’s bill of cost and that which is necessary and reasonable.

It is often more complicated to oppose a bill of cost than what it is to draw a bill of cost. We also oppose bills of cost and can assist you in ensuring your client does not pay fees and disbursements that are not justifiable

ADVISING

If we are your cost consultants, we are always available to offer advice on how to organise and manage your office files and personnel. It is necessary to have certain checks and balances to ensure that you record all the data and information necessary so you do not “miss out” on fees and disbursements.

We are also there to assist you with legal aspects regarding the law of costs, for example ensuring that your draft orders are comprehensive and legally accurate.

We are committed to support our clients through our ability to deliver value with meticulous precision and prompt service
